8 Basic And Easy Challenges to look for in Autism

Posted by

There is no doubt there are more challenges In Autism but here are 5 basic areas that I have personally went through:

Basic Challenges

1. Adjusting to the lack of structure

This can be quite challenging, especially when transitioning from a highly structured classroom environment to one that lacks such organization. Personally, I discovered that creating my own personal routine and schedule at home played a crucial role in keeping me on track with all my tasks and responsibilities. By having a well-defined routine, I was able to effectively manage my time and ensure that I accomplished everything I needed to do. Moreover, establishing this sense of structure not only helped me stay disciplined but also prevented any undesirable behaviors that could arise from the absence of a structured setting.

2. Establishing meaningful relationships with teachers and staff is crucial

Especially in today’s virtual learning environment. With the lack of face-to-face contact, it can be challenging to establish a connection and receive the necessary support from teachers and professionals. To overcome this, it is important to regularly reach out when needed, whether it’s through email, virtual meetings, or other communication channels. Actively asking questions, sharing concerns, and participating fully in meetings and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) can foster a stronger bond and ensure that your educational needs are met effectively. Remember, open and consistent communication is key to building a supportive network and thriving academically.

What Are The Five Challenges In Autism?

3. Managing time effectively

It’s easy to become overwhelmed with all the tasks that need to be completed and there are lots of tools out there that can help. I would recommend using a calendar app or planner, setting reminders for important tasks and trying to break up big projects into smaller chunks.

4. Being self-motivated

Staying motivated and overcoming daily challenges can be tough without the support and encouragement of teachers and classmates. Personally, I find it helpful to set realistic goals, celebrate my accomplishments, and actively engage with online communities and support groups to foster a sense of responsibility and accountability.

5. Reaching out for help

Although it can be difficult to ask questions or reach out for assistance, getting help when needed can be beneficial in the long run. I would ensure that I have a list of trusted contacts (like teachers, advisors or family members) who I can reach out to when I need help with a task or understanding. Additionally, I would take advantage of online tools and resources to get the help I need.

6. Staying organized

When studying from home, it can be easy to become overwhelmed with all that needs to be done in a day or week. To prevent this, I would create a schedule and stick to it as best as possible. This could include time for classes, studying breaks and even leisure activities like reading or art projects. Additionally, I would make sure to have physical reminders (like post-it notes) of important tasks on my desk or walls that can act as visual reminders throughout the day!

7. Maintaining physical well-being –

Working from home can leave me feeling unmotivated or unproductive. To improve my physical well-being, I would make sure to get up and move around often throughout the day. Taking breaks for a walk or doing some stretches can help me stay energized and focused on the task at hand. Additionally, I would also make sure to get enough sleep each night so that you are well-rested and ready for the next day’s tasks!

8. Put your thoughts in a blog or journal.

My therapist recommend this one to me and it has been a game changer. Sometimes, when we are going through a tough time, it can be hard to articulate our thoughts and feelings. This is where writing can be incredibly helpful. Whether you prefer blogging or journaling, putting your thoughts down on paper (or type them out) can provide a sense of release and clarity.

A blog or journal is also a great way to track your progress and reflect on how far you have come. It allows you to look back on your journey and see how much you have grown and overcome. Plus, if you choose to share your writings with others through a blog, you may even inspire someone else who is going through a similar struggle.
